Hi all,

Monica and I took our Street Triples to the coast on a 2 day trip.  We took 70 - 89 - 36 all the way to 101 to Eureka.

A must-stop-and-get-a-picture sign on SR 36.  Monica hates gravel.  I hate gravel.  But for a great shot with her bike in it, nothing stops Monica.  By now I've become very proficient at taking a picture of her taking a picture of her bike at the most inconvenient places, as you see below.   ;D

It was a great ride except for a terrible 8 mile stretch of roadwork on 36.  The entire span of 8 miles was pilot car led, one lane, through active construction zone, occasionally having to stop in dirt/mud for a water truck with wheels taller than us to go right by us (and also in the process spraying us as well).

Here is Monica, while waiting to get through the construction zone.  We had no idea what was ahead, so of course we were all smiles!

Burger stop at Mad River...

On our way back, we went a bit further north on 101 to take 299 - 44 to Susanville, then straight back to Reno on 395.

We had another group of riders from Reno that happened to be at Eureka the same day by total coincidence.  We all had coffee at Black Lightning motorcycle cafe the next morning before we headed back to Reno (separate routes).

All in all it was about 750 miles on our Triples. We both decided we weren't in that terrible of a shape considering we had no windscreen or fairing on our bikes.

10/10 would do it again!

:clap  Nice way to ride.  And a much appreciated write-up.

I think we have another candidate for one of our OoB routes.

Wind fatigue does drain the rider.  Just enough to drain the rider as the day goes on, but not much you can do about that on a naked bike or just about any new non-H-D style bike these days.  I think the manufacturers are tailoring their products to what riders want (but don't), which are unpractical small bib windscreens or none.  That, or people can buy a H-D/ADV style bike with a non-sporting riding position and experience; so it's one or the other.  :(

BTW, is the single lane section of SR-36 after Mad River still there or have they started the hill leveling yet?

It's about taking in the most corners to your destination, not about the shortest, quickest route.

I've heard a lot about Black Lighting cafe from the Mrs two trips there.  Mavbe she will take me some day  :)

Great write up and sounded like a great trip.

I don't remember any more roadwork past Mad River.  Monica told me that they really improved the road there, but I wouldn't know since it was my first time going through.

Nice trip report, thanks for sharing.  Some of us did the same run last month.  Anyone planning a trip out on 36, I highly recommend staying at the Bear River Casino, just north of Fortuna.  They have garage parking for the bikes! Stays nice and dry from the horrible morning mist.
