Hi guys!  I've lived in the area most of my life, but just recently got serious about street riding.  I've ridden dirt bikes before, but nothing on the street.  I'm looking at beginner bikes and reviews now, and I'm scheduled for the MSF course at TMCC in June.  So far, I'm really leaning toward a Ninja 300.

I'm glad to have found a sport group here!  I've seen a lot of YouTube videos for riding groups in California, but with Tahoe and all the fun roads around here it seems like a perfect place to ride.  Speaking of YouTube, I credit mordeth13 with rekindling my interest in riding.

About me - I'm in my late 30's, divorced, remarried, two kids, always wanted to buy a street bike but never got around to it.  Life's passing by way too fast, it's time to have some fun (safely).   ;D

Thanks!  I heard a recommendation from the Kawasaki dealership for the advanced riding course in Fernley.  Have any of you taken it, and if so would you recommend it to a new rider like me?

I'm not familiar with that course, but more education is always good.

I would say take the BRC, then practice for a few weeks then take the ARC.

The BRC instructors at TMCC are great, and I believe they teach the ARC also. Good luck!

I took the MSC in Carson City. Being away from bikes for 18 years I needed a refresher. It was a great experience and really helped with getting some skills back. Steve from 2 Wheel Custom was teaching the TMCC classes and he is a great guy. Not sure on Fernley or anywhere else. My .02! Good luck and look forward to some group rides!

How's Steve on Fernley...?  FAST!

I watched an endurance challenge out there two season's back.  It was one of those where the riders have to run to their bikes, start and go.  I think he was on poll or placed based on a lottery system, anyway he was placed at the back of the pack.  When they started, I think he was distracted by something else.  All the other riders were off before he made it to his GSXR-750 and the leader had already finished the first series of turns.  Steve, tore them apart.  It wasn't even close.  He was passing riders everywhere, like he had his own personal line.  He really put on a clinic.   :bowdown
It's about taking in the most corners to your destination, not about the shortest, quickest route.

Thanks for the input - my current plan is to take the MSF course at TMCC, get my bike, and then practice a ton around town on the less-busy streets.  I live on the south end of town, just off of South Meadows, so I'll probably be riding on Veterans Blvd. and around that area a ton to start with.  My goal this summer is to do a group ride around Tahoe; I've always wanted to do that.   :)

I'm subscribed to a whole slew of riders on YouTube, absorbing as much info as I can.  (At least that's what I tell my wife.  I'm really watching sportbike porn, listening to Two Brothers exhaust tones and watching Mordeth13 tear up the hills around Taiwan  :D).

Thanks again for the welcome, I look forward to the riding!

There's another fairly new-to-riding SSA rider on this forum by the name of Dub.  I'd take whatever pointers he gleams your way.  He's one of the fastest & safest riders out there, road or track.  Looks like a young kid, but looks can be deceiving.
