Ran into Wills.  Same Wills we've always known, full of piss and vinegar.  288 was there too, walking around checking out the bikes.   Wills has been riding the same roads we have, only his schedule has him opposite the regular 9 - 5.  I'll let him tell the story in his own words if he chooses. Things might be changing for him here in a couple weeks, so we may have the ol' cigar smoking, law enforcement chiding Wills along for a ride in the not too distant future.

I shouldn't have a scheduling conflict.  See you down there, if you decide to go.  I'd like to compare notes on your Saturday morning ride.

Forgot I'm traveling that day.  I might be back and I might not.  Assume not given r/t time back to the house and commuting over to PJ's.

It kinda sucks if you don't know anybody there.  I'm not fascinated enough with what few sportbikes are there to strike up a conversation with anyone, that's if I can find the owner of the bike I'm curious about.

I should qualify the last post as well.  That would all change if two things were to happen at PJ's bike night.  For one, if they had free beer, that would probably make for a more enjoyable outing.  The other would be if we took away all the men and replaced them with hot single women of all ages.  That would really spice things up!

Do all these people who bring their bikes to PJ & Co actually ride them, or just shine them up and park them? If so, why aren't we riding with any of them on Sundays?

Tons of people there tonight.  If anyone wants a CBX-1000, there was one for sale for only $9,999.   I'm nostalgic about a cool classic, but not ten grand worth.

Sorry I missed everyone.  I arrived late and left early.

Nice evening at PJ's.  Some nice classics there, old Honda racer, vintage Indian, and beautiful 3 wheel HD delivery trike.  More sport bikes than usual.

Daniel covered the early shift, I covered the middle and GM late.

Ducati report, Cobra?
Title: Re: Bike Night at PJ & Co
Post by: cobra23 on July 28, 2014, 11:23:31 PM
I actually saw only three Ducati's. All three were Monsters.

Mine, the 796 and an S2R. Spent a great deal of time studying the KZ's that were there. There was also an SR 650 (1978 special KZ) those are especially cool.

I am thinking there were about 50 bikes altogether. Lots of nice people, no loud mouthing or showboating that I saw, it was very nice.

Food is always good too at Pj's.

I won't be able to make it to PJ's on Wednesday evening.  I have another BBQ to attend in the afternoon.

Be careful where you park and be sure to use a side stand coaster to prevent your bike from tipping over.  Nothing worse than having your pride and joy damaged unnecessarily.  If you don't have a block of wood or something solid to put under the stand, PJ has some plastic ones for the asking.  He's a great guy and genuinely wants your experience there to be a good one.

Damn GM, between goat roads and PJ's, you are having the worst luck with plastics!

Perhaps.  I was really depressed after the PJs deal and it took me several days to put it into perspective.  It's just one of those things that happen and there's nothing that can be done about it.  It wasn't done intentionally and after she's all fixed back to her original condition, nobody will be able to tell the difference.  And even if she's not, it's just a machine; metal and plastic.

The drama being self-inflicted about it pales by comparison to people's lives who are experiencing real problems in this world.

With the older bike's fairing crack, that's happened before.  They're aftermarket ABS.  I had the under cowling snap one side off already from a burst of water hitting it, while riding in the rain.  It's been reinforced from the inside, so you can't tell unless you look to see why there's an additional screw in that area.

Dusk is 7:15 tonight and I'd prefer not to ride too much after that.  Which means, that if we're going to do a short ride to the Highlands and back, we'll need to get going by 6:30 PM from PJs.  That should give us enough daylight to be off of the hill before dark.

I still have to get a tire on the bike.  This week has been my hell week for work and I haven't had time to get that done.  It's going to be a marathon.

PJ's had some big deal with KTM and doing pictures with hot women near your bike for charity, but it all started after dark and we had plans already.

The four of us made our way out the back.  Just before we departed, I told SL and 288 to expect the usual stop at the bottom, but the whole way from the lit intersection at the bottom of Geiger to the chain up area, all the cars had turned off.  The only soul left was a HD rider, so we proceeded up behind him.  By the time our group of four reached the lookout, there wasn't a car within sight going all the way up the mountain.  It was a wild experience.  On the way back, we had stopped to wait for a clearing, but there always seemed to be some traffic heading down.  Finally, we just decided to go, except it was a false start.  TB5 headed out first with cars directly in his path, but then I thought I'd hang back for a bit to see if there was a gap to take advantage of.  The other two hung with me.  We made a nice ride back, with the exception of a brief stoppage for horses crossing the roadway.

If TB5 was at the bottom when we arrived, we couldn't tell.  We never caught up to him.  And since many of us had chores to do tonight, we just proceeded back home, splitting off on the freeway as we found our exits.

It was a splendid little ride, if I do say so myself.  We took in what we could, for as little riding time as there was.  And we were rewarded mightily.  Thanks guys for coming out.

We have a really good bunch of riders!

I debated bringing mine too, being that it was so stinking hot tonight.  It wasn't as bad as I thought though.  And once we got rolling the heat wasn't an issue.

That was an excellent lap. When I pulled out I only had to pass one car and the second pulled off for me. Had a clear run from VC all the way to the bottom of Geiger. Unheard of! The only near hiccup was the cop right after I pulled out. I was hanging off the bike in a turn and he flashed his lights at me. I looked down and was only doing 44mph.. I think that's a 45 zone right? Anyway he didn't stop so I promptly forgot about him and off I went. Was thinking you guys would catch up but when I got to the bottom was getting dark do just continued on home.

I'll see if I can stroll down for a little but I'm not too sure yet.

Rich:

I'm not Rich but this may help.

Set your settings to show the most recent post on top.

Click on "Profile" on the top green menu bar
Click on "Look and Layout Preferences" in the left column middle under "Modify Profile"
Check the second to last box that says "Show most recent posts at the top".
Then click the "Change Profile" button on the bottom right to save the new settings.

With these settings when you click on a category, for instance, "General Discussion" the newest post will be a the top. Same thing when you click on a specific post such as "Bike Night at PJ & Co" the newest post will now be at the top. There is also a blue "new" icon that appears for posts you haven't read yet so you know when there are new posts without having to check on every topic.

Hope this helps some, Rich can chime in if he has some more tricks.

RG.   Instead of clicking on the thread to open it click on the icon at the far right for that thread. If you hover your mouse over it it should say "last post".  It will takes you to the last post, nice for posts that are multiple pages.  I just freed up 45 min of your day!

I haven't tried what SL suggested but that is another option.

Dont think anyone will find this thread here, but here it goes just in case.  Weather is to nice not to go to PJ's tonight.  Headed down 6:30ish.

Sorry to those of you who showed up after dark.  I didn't take my telephone with me, so when everyone was leaving after dusk, so did I. No idea what hour it was at the time.  Normally I ride home through town, but tonight I thought I'd change it up a little and watch the Rich/Mon rivalry.  Damn!  They're even competitive with me and I was just there to observe.

What time did you guys end up leaving? I thought I saw Monica's bike still there on my way home a little before 9pm, I almost stopped again but I didn't see Rich's bike behind it so I thought maybe it was someone else's Triple.

I did one better, I was instigated into drag racing a Mustang over the Wells Avenue bridge. This thing was bombed out; blown out rear window, young kid driver with what looked like his kid brother in the passenger seat, loud headers and stinky. What fun!

Not really.  I was being instigated by that Mustang, but I ignored him.  We hit the stoplight on the other side and I motioned to roll in front of him to join Rich and Monica at the light.  He waved me through, but forgot to hold the brake, so I had to stutter roll in.  Then the whole time he was revving his motor like he was readying for a drag race, with the three of us feet from his bumper.  Thankfully when the light changed, he didn't gun it and kill us all in the process.

That whole element is what turns me off about owning a sportbike.  I'd just as soon take up fly fishing.

It was an experiment to see how my old tired carburetted bike stacked up against a new fuel injected bike with quick shift.

The new bike was impressive for a 675cc.  No doubt.  So too for the 919.  8)

Weather is fairly decent and last week saw a lot of new faces, especially young women coming out.  You could almost make the argument that the #1 new demographic in motorcycles are women sportbike riders.

I'm planning on going down to bike night tonight if anyone's interested in watching riders do parking lot burnouts or blasting their distorted cheap radios.

Gonna try to be there 5:30 - 5:45 PM-ish.

Was planning on being there at 7 but I'll come a little early to hang out a bit, that'll give me time to drink an extra beer.  :evil1
:cheers

Thinking mid-80s around the time I get over there on Wednesday should be perfect!  I'll have the bike outfitted with its new license plate backer.

RG will be there, but didn't specify when.  I'll be there by 5:30 and staying long enough to visit with the 6:30 PM folks, before heading over to Dragon's for weekend trip planning.

I'll be there.  It'll be hot, but usually cools off enough so it's not too bad.

For you newbs, so you know what to expect, PJ's bike night is for all general motorcycle enthusiasts.   Happy hour is before 6 PM, so SSA members usually tend to stream in after 5:30.  There isn't a fixed time.

If you want to find me, find my big green Ninja.  There will be no other like it.

Turned out, for once, mine wasn't the biggest green Ninja there last night.  What a coincidence!  >:(

Saw RG there, but no other regular sport riders.  It could have been that they saw Reno PD had sent down one of their MC officers to do PR, but from what I saw, he was a hit and didn't bat an eye when one rider rode in without a helmet on and another wheelied in front of everyone down the street.

Sounds like Vr and I will be there Wednesday.  He'll be on the red Ducati Multistrada and I'll be on my usual bike.

Yea, N Tahoe and Truckee have had numerous severe storms last few weeks.

Weather activity is increasing around Reno as well so will wait for a better night to go.

I kind of figured the weather would play into last night's get together.   By about 4:30 I was south of the airport and it was rolling in again.  Cool to watch, but does put a damper on any thoughts of trying to ride with storm cells all around.

It should be a good night for seeing if there are any newbs in the area this year.

Should be down there after 5:00 PM tonight.

I had forgotten all about it until the Mrs mentioned it earlier.  Perfect evening, just a long day so catching up with a glass of whiskey at home.

Not if I have to ride McCarren as something they'd call a curvy road.   :laughing

Decent turn out.  Not overflowing as of yet, but one of the regulars brought down his H2.  What a beautiful bike!  Some new faces and a lot more women riders than I've ever seen in one place.

No sooner had the guy parked his shiny H2 than an old drunk on a scooter about dumped his bike over onto it.  He appeared out of control and almost ran me over in the parking lot just before that.  I thought he was joking.  Easily the most expensive bike in the lot next to the least expensive toy.  Yeah, I think I'll park right here.   :drinking  One rider inserted himself between the two bikes just in case the drunk attempted another fallover.

Rich, it would have been a nice night for it.  It's already getting hot.  Almost too hot to stand around in a blacktop parking lot.

@GreenMachine,
The H2 was mine. The guy with the scooter was my friends brother who is just a bit strange to say the least, and just got the scooter the day before.
As for the H2, all I can say is damn! The thing is hairy. Every detail is sorted out on this thing.

:D  We may have met somewhere before or it's that you are, like me, one of the PJ bike night regulars.   I'll introduce myself next time.  I'm also acquainted with Kay/Kai (sp?).  He's friends with several of the other SSA legends and have seen him here and there too.  He's another legend as I think you have been referred to by some on here too.

Hope to see the H2 more this season.  What a great addition to bike night!

See you sometime out there again.  Maybe Wednesday evening.  I'm probably going to head down there.  The weather's looking nice for it.

Actually I was one of the original SSA members. Zorin and I would take off and do our own thing for most of the rides.
I used to work with Kay, we have been friends for 30 years, and have been riding together since way back then. Actually Kay stopped the scooter from falling on my bike.   Dragon, and I go way back as well, we knew each other from roller skating. That is one personable guy.
I need to change my riding a bit and start going with other people.
That being said, I am having to relearn how to ride. The power on that thing goes exponential and it takes time to get used to it.  Never have I felt anything like that. The magazines can't describe it, hard to put into words.

It'll be close to 6:00 before I can get down there, if anybody was looking for company.  I'm going to choke down some dinner real quick, then head over.  Probably hang for another hour or so.

What a fun evening, made all the more colorful by Wade68 who came out on his new/used Honda Shadow.  I'm not into those kinds of bikes, but damn, it's a charmer!

Ted brought down his gorgeous H2 and some other guy showed up on his H2R.  Very busy tonight.  They had a charity auction for a rider.  A good night to keep the jacket on however.
