I am planning on making my first trip to Thunderhill on 6/9 and am wondering what is the best way to get there?  Google maps gave me I-80 to I-5 taking about 3 hours 35 minutes; MapQuest put me at 3 hours 50minutes, and about 40 miles shorter, when you go through Marysville.  The latter sounds like the better option- any suggestions?

there was a discussion in the past about this. Bottom line is that 80 to 5 was faster. Hwy 20 was more scenic but prone to RV traffic and slow.

Yessir, what he said ^^^. I-80 to I-5 is further mileage wise but the speed limit is 10mph higher. Hwy 20 will take you longer but it is less miles.

80 to 5 it is.  Thanks guys.

You could take HWY 70 and hit HWY 162 just south of Oroville. Follow 162 all the way to the track. its 221 miles taking 80 then 5 @3hrs 25mins or 207 miles 3hrs 47mins taking 70 then 162.
Keep the rubber side down.

Towing a trailer changes the speed limit.
