Title: How about a bike night???/. It's just a hang out, don't need to ride 2 wheels
Post by: 288RR on March 24, 2014, 05:45:39 PM
Hey guys. How about we get  together one of these nights.  I know Mel has started to go them during the riding season.   So why don't we try to get together befor the season really gets going,  I was thinking we could meet up at Pinocchio's Bar & Grill,  or the A&W down there on plum?
Heck. We could probably check out the electric gocart place for ones who haven't been, and see if some are better on 4 or 2 wheels
I'm open for any day,  lets hear what day will work best for you guys,   Maybe we can get GM to come out this time ( if it's not a little wet out side).    ;)

5:30 @ need2speed.  By the target by Meadowood mall
Then about 6pm at Pinocchio's bar and grill reno.  We maybe a little slow getting from the carts to the bar

Rushing the seasons are we, 288?  I don't mind.  I think RR will be on his way out of town by then.  Normally the SSA bike night, when it was just us was held on the first Tuesday of May.

Heck, I haven't even started on the ride schedule yet.  What will I talk about?   :|)
Title: Re: How about a bike night???
Post by: 288RR on March 25, 2014, 09:37:06 PM
I don't think we will be rushing the seasons,  since winter never showed up.  We could talk about anything really, if we get any new riders to show up we can meet them.  And since the ride schedule isn't done,  I'm sure we can see what everyone has in mind for rides this year?  And we could hit up the gocart place.

NEXT thursday GM. Ill be back and on street tires by then :).
If we can get a regular schedule/thing going im still in favor of spamming UNRs motorcycle parking lot with some form of flyer. Thats how i got pulled in to my group at college.

It snowed at lake level last night.

I think that's a great idea. Would be nice to see some new riders on the forum and in the club this season.

As far as a time. What time would you like to meet up?  Like 5:30 at the cart place then head on over to Pinocchio's afterwards for a drink or two.?

Sooo next Thursday I can catch you guys at Pinocchio's back behind the BoA on Virginia?

Come on you big baby!  You only drove 5 hours each way.  I used to do that weekend after weekend without a problem. Heck, I'd even arrive home after midnight and be at work the next day.  Duh, I just did that this past year too going to 49ers games on Sunday evenings. You sound like my dear departed father.  Anything over 4 hours is too much for you. :spank

KOLO and KRNV seem to agree:
Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 58.
Thursday Night: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37.

Weather Underground adds:
Thursday Night Overcast. Low 34F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph.

Sounds rideable...  :egyptian :grnbike

Are there going to be loose topless women serving free beer?  Then yes?  Otherwise, the forecast sounds like a chilly evening.

What's the plan again?  I'm a little confused if you're all going cart racing then heading over to Pinocchio's after that or just going there to hang out and shoot the bull.

Yes. Meeting up at the go carts for a race then heading over to Pinocchio after the race,  5:30 at the cart place for a race, and that should put us at the bar about 6

I'm sorry, did you say you could do it in 3?  I though it was one of those odd numbers and I thought you kinda beat it into my head that you could easily do it in 5.  You had a lot of things on your mind while you were bolting up the hitch, so maybe that was it.  Or it was two other people.   :-\

I'll have to make it a fast evening.  My poker buddies switched poker night from Wednesday to Thursday night.  I can still make both events, but I'll need to cut out early.

See?  We should postpone this for weather related reasons too.  I want to ride to bike night.  Taking a car to bike night feels weird and not right.

Brrr!  Cold tires, cold streets, & cold air temps, but riding anyway.  What am I saying?!  You ride to Bishop at this time of year.  You're either conditioned for it or crazy or both.  I'll ride in it if I have to or because I'm dieing to ride, but I seriously doubt I'll ride Thursday evening.  Plus with T-hill coming up, I don't want to chill my system and get sick.

What bike shops are you two going to beforehand?  That sounds like a fun way to spend an evening.

She has her eye on a cbr500r. So we are going to go look at some and see what she thinks.

And I think I'm both, crazy and conditioned.  If it looks to cold ill show up on 4 wheels,  time will tell.

I vote for making the whole experience a positive one, where we can ride to/from Bike Night in nice Spring-like weather and have the ability to have a beer.  Warm surroundings and cold beer sounds a lot more fun than the alternative.

I remember when I started going to my first bike nights in '08, the evenings were warm and I might have had a beer on an occasion or two.  Fond memories.  I can still remember getting off my bike, the new guy on a bike similar to A Dragon's, but not knowing anyone.  The evening's would cool down later in the year, but overall it was just nice.  Which could explain why I remember them so fondly.

I like this..I could not have put it better myself.

This year I would like to get out and meet "people". I'm gonna try to even talk to them (you). I was working here in Reno in 07 on the first night of the bikes I attended on the Ducati. It was great, my family was still living in Washington State, so it was the only socializing I conducted. Except I only talked to the gal serving food at Pj's. Later I learned to talk with Jerome and Alberto.

One day I hope to learn to talk to many people.

My name is Ted...and I don't talk much.  :ohno

Hey Daniel,

I've been following this thread from the beginning and have come to the conclusion that you should have called it something like the SSA Meet, and not Bike Night which apparently implies that you must ride a bike to the event. The bike nights that I have been to so far have had nothing to do with checking out each other's bikes, but just hanging around, eating and drinking, and shooting the shit about bikes and life :). It's always been about camaraderie and enjoying the company, rather than how you got there. For example, Daniel whether you rode or drove to the event doesn't mean jack to me, it's the hanging out that counts!

Dilemma.  Do I ride?  If I ride I'll absolutely come in leathers, but then I'll be 12 lbs heavier than with jeans, so not only very little hope of having a good race, but I'll probably be relegated to the back.  If I drive, the I'll still lose, might only get lapped once instead of twice and I'll be more appropriately dressed for Pinocchio's.

Might as well ride with full gear and just take my licks.

Thanks Mel.  I do know now that I picked a name for the night.   I never really cared if anyone shows up on two or four wheels.    Like you said it all just about hanging out a shooting the $#!+.
So with that being said. I anyone wants to come. Just show up. Who knows I may not even Show up on my bike.  But I'll be there to have a good time

And if you don't see my bike. I'll be driving a red jeep

You should update the OP with the time and place  you are meeting so people don't have to read through every post to try and figure it out. I have been kind of loosely following this thread and I don't know.

Naw much longer than that,  Mel and you both have some great stories, learning about new roads, and some tips and hits on riding even better.  I can't wait to see what Mel puts together for a ride, and hopefully I'll be able to make it.
And. No girlfriend for me,  that's my real good friend,  pretty much like a sister.

The cart racing was fun.  Wish they would have told me about the brake killing the motor.  Those things are really meant for shorter drivers.  DR wouldn't fit.  Certainly with his bad back.  The lateral Gs they could generate was exceptional, but when you got off line trying to experiment or due to oversteer, the dirty portion of the track could send you off sliding.  By the end, I had finally figured out how to ride the thing hard.  That's when I began to enjoy it, but then they cut the power and our time was done.   :-\

Hope I wasn't too obnoxious pushing Daniel and his girlfriend out of they way.  Rocket gets me kinda spastic sometimes with his competitiveness.   I blame him and you should too.

Hey guys and gals, had a great time hanging out with you all tonight! Thanks for putting it together Daniel and for picking up most of the tab 8). I did my best to try and talk GM into liking the goat roads, but it was a lost cause :)! I'll have to start thinking about a ride to the Santa Cruz mountains and what roads to pick ;).

Thanks guys for letting a lone wolf drop in and hang out with you all. It was finally grea to meet (and re-meet!) the folks that I keep seeing on here. Now I have faces and voices! I loved hearing the stories and hope to one day start out with you on some ride this year. Else, I'll just follow along the same roads.

The spot I wanted to share is called Carroll Summit out on 722, between Middlegate and Austin. You can see the short section of twists here: http://www.satelliteviews.net/cgi-bin/g.cgi?fid=847274&state=NV&ftype=summit

Its not much, but it does help to break up the monotony of Highway 50 through central Nevada.

Taking ideas from you guys on perhaps VC, Mt. Rose, North County type destinations for meeting up, show-n-shine and dining.

Those are examples.  Richman & Monica took us into Dayton a week back.  I'm sure there would have to be a cool joint we could check out there.  VC has the Jerky House, which many of us enjoy.  If we rode over Mr. Rose, there's an infinite list of places to hang out at in the Kings Beach/Tahoe City area.  Heck, we could even venture off to Chilcoot, CA for a Frosty cone.  They're all relative short rides compared to our Sunday schedule.  We could repeat them over without regard to repetition.   Whatever the group decides.  It's your SSA.
