California Prionus beetle captured

So I caught this big guy in my garage last night.  He's over 2 inches long and looks similar to the one in this picture.



He was flopping around on the floor flapping his wings.   He's not a horned beetle, the type with mandibles that eat slugs and other pest insects.  Their large larva feeds on roots of deciduous trees. It is similar to the pine sawyer beetle, the kind that bores into sick or dead conifers.

What shall his fate be?
It's about taking in the most corners to your destination, not about the shortest, quickest route.
