Title: Trackday pre-inspection lookover
Post by: GreenMachine on August 17, 2010, 09:37:29 AM
Would someone be willing to tech inspect my bike tonight? (Tuesday bike night)  I'd hate to have all this lead-up to my first anticipated Track Day, only to find my bike fails tech inspection for some reason.

Does it have brakes? Leak any oil? chain adjusted OK? throttle return back to neutral? Coolant removed? Glass removed or taped over (don't worry about plastic)? No visible brake light showing to the rear?

If so, you should be good to go. Those are the major things that I have looked at when doing tech.

It would be best to remove it. If it gets out on the track it is hell to remove and will cause crashes. I know you live up at the lake, and probably would prefer to keep it, but it is best at the track to run water/water wetter only.

I 'think' RFRT wants it out. It is really there requirement most of the time

highly recommended. you dont wanna be that guy If something happened either....
water wetter Is 9.99 and you only use 2 capfulls.. it'll last for many changes and distilled water is .99 well worth the change. and it has better cooling abilities. just switch it out before the first freeze of winter..

If he does not want to buy a Water Wetter bottle, I can bring mine then he can take two capfuls. The only problem I will be there only on Sunday.

My 9R is getting up there in mileage and accumulated road grime in the undercarriage.  I plan on removing the under cowling and power washing it.  Coolant is the OEM green stuff, which I would imagine is a slippery hazard for the track.   Maybe after Youngster inspects it tonight I'll take it over to Rich at Moto Source and have him change it out.

As far as roadworthy, the suspension is in good shape, all the pads were just replaced, throttle and levers should pass, tires are new, and I have rolls of the blue 2" painter's tape.  I think I'm primarily being cautious about the road grime and the fact that in the old days a bike needed the coolant changed and bolts safety wired.

[edit]: I better clean the inside of the front sprocket assembly too.  I know there's a gob of chain goo in there or was the last time I cleaned it. :o

Thanks everyone for the help.  I want to be prepared and want my bike to be as clean and safe as I can make it.  I'll pass on the track experience if she presents a safety problem.

no safety wire needed for a "TRACK DAY" and I'll bring some water wetter and distilled for you tonight...

If you use the drain plug on the side case I think that gets the majority of it. I usually drain there, add water, run the engine until warm and then drain again.

We'll see smart guy!  (http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/images/smilies/twofinger.gif)

Dean said he's going both days, so I can share his sun shade and ride as many sessions as fuel levels will allow.  I'm thinking of taking advantage of the suspension setup too.  I'll be riding to and from RFR, then a little on RFR.  ;D

[edit]: Thanks Youngster for the race tech inspection, the water wetter, the distilled water, tools, the tire pressure tips, and all the offers for assistance.  I'm going to owe so many people for all the help.  Qwik, thanks for offering the lift and Dean for offering additional shade.

It looks like it's a go then.  Looking forward to all the GoPro footage from the other bikes and mine.  I'll probably be ripping off hundreds of still shots on the digital, if anyone wants me to do some camera work for those in A/B groups.

...yeah, I'm getting a little excited about it now.  It's hard not to with everyone excited themselves and for me.  The encouragement and assistance is appreciated.  8)

Green Machine ;D ;D  I'm so excited for you.  Your going to have the best day on your bike ever. I need to bring my camera to capture that smile that's going to be on your face after the track sinks into your blood.

I do recommend trailer'in your bike to the track. Your going to be dog ass tired at the end of the day. It'll be nice to go home in a car when your done. I don't know if I'll have room for your bike in my truck. But hopefully some one would be able to help you out. If you can get it ready by Friday I can get it to the track. I'll take it to Andy's in Fallon and he'll bring it to the track for you.   Let me know ;D ;D

I'm wondering if I should bring a 5g gas container for each of us so we can run reduced fuel loads.  At 6 lbs./gallon it adds up.  I know I could run 18 lbs lighter for each session.  What do you think?  Alberto did this a number of years ago to improve handling and performance.  His lap times were awesome, up to his last one.  :P

Green Machine. You will probably need a extra 5 gals. of gas for each day you run. That's generally the norm. I've been with people who only fill their tanks 1/2 way. Just for that reason.  Personally. It's just more things for me to worry about. So I don't. But if you think you want to do it. You should try it.

Scarlett at the track has hot food. She is so nice. I can't resist buying from her every track day. You should try the pulled pork and Garlic fries.  Yum, Yum :P :P   Just make sure you bring lots of water. We'll have plenty at registration if anyone needs it.
