Title: Aug 21 & Aug 22 SSA Track Days
Post by: Rick Bay (BRA) on July 05, 2010, 08:58:00 PM
I feel so bad for missing the last SSA Track Day.

I just started my new job in the Bay but in a couple weeks I'll request these days off for sure.

I can not miss it again!

How about you...
Do you have your plans already?
Please tell us what you are thinking to do to enjoy the Track Day the most!!

We still have a long way till Aug 21 and 22; please start programming your things before for no surprises later.

Don't miss the hot track next month.

I'll see you there.

Awesome collors by the way!  ;D

I wish today was August 20th already... I cant wait for those two days!! Yeah, this time I'm going for both of them... with new front tire, knee sliders and an on board camera!!!  8)

My preparation is to look desperately for a job cause I might have to leave the US if I dont find one till August 6... :'(

But as far as I know, in case that happens (knock, knock, knock), I'll have a month to leave which translates to September 6th. The only problem is that I'll have only a couple of weeks to sell my bike... that will suck really bad!

Does anybody have or know someone that has an engineer position opening??  ;D ;D (My bad if I can't say this here...Let me know and I'll erase right away!)

Yeah, be prepared we'll have a lot of fun there.  :P

But the way, you should ask "Yard Sale" Eric. If I'm not wrong he is an engineer also. May be he can help you out on that.  ;)

It could be either Metallurgical or Materials scientist/engineer (those are the ones I have a degree). But depending on the job, I can do Mechanical engineer too... that would be a little more restrict though. Do you know anybody in any of these fields, Dale?

unfortunately I do not :(

Only people I can think of that has Metallurgy and such on any full time capacity would be NDOT. Not sure if there is any manufacturing in Nevada that would employ an engineer in that field. Sorry :(

This is my plans:

I can not make both days. Too bad...

I'll have day off on Sunday 22 and Monday 23. So, Sunday for sure I'll be on the track and to see you all again. Also, I'm trying to go at Tahoe one of this coming Sunday, maybe I can connect a Sunday ride with you guys...

Miss you all. I few like excluded down here...

Ah. I just signed up on this web site club called "BARF". Last week I was at the Gold Gate Bridge parking lot then a Police Man said he has one R6 too color white with red seat. Also he asked me if I do track days because he saw a lot of SSA stickers and one Keigwins Track Days sticker on my bike. He told me to join this web site to know new riders here at the bay area.

I'm gonna start a tread there inviting them to go to the next SSA Track Day in August. Let's see what happens.

Dammed… I miss you guys a lot…

Wou... I was starting to wonder what have happened with you buddy! Long time dont see a post of yours here on this board...

Anyways, good that you will be able to make at least one of the days over here and that you are already hooking up for more trackdays down there. By the way, could you PM me your e-mail?

And just to not get away from the topic, I am working on my R6 and hopefully I will be able to make at least Sunday as well! I guess it will depend more on my knee than anything else... We'll see!

Hey Bruce, Jay told me he will be there one day(he was not sure which). Let's definitely get together for some laps. I know RFRT quite well now, and Jay... well you know what a great rider he is, he showed me around RFRT and he's one of the fastest guys out there. Look forward to riding with you..

I'll be there on Saturday and Sunday, probably with two (one for sure) GoPro attached on my machine. And I'll be more than happy to follow whoever wants a video of themselves on the track. The only pre-requesite for that is that you HAVE to be as slow or slower than me!  ;D ;D

Dont be shy to post up, you will see a lot of really fast guys riding on C group as well....with a freacking glowing orange shirt though!  :D

So post up!!!

the policy is: anyone who brings a BBQ or any cooking apperatus into the track grounds MUST COOK FOOD FOR PAUL AND HIS FAMILY. if you need to check that, it's on the RFR website right underneath my picture.  :D

why would you go thru Reno to get there from Carson? Just go Hwy 50 out to 95A and take a left. It's only about 8 miles from there. Much easier drive than going all the way up to reno and across...and shorter! :)

I just love to ride. Hwy 50 is really boring too. Going through Reno is just a bit more fun. Besides it would be nice to find someone to ride along with to show me the ropes. It will be my first time to RFR for a track day.

Hello.  I am from Sacramento, I have ridden with SSA on the Ice House ride.  I was thinking of going to Reno tomorrow (Sun, 8/22) to attend RFR.  I know this is last minute, is it too late?  I found out how much and how I register, I found the time schedule and directions.

It looks like there is only "A - Advanced", is it ok to register if I feel like I am "B"?

I just found this: "After 3:00 PM Friday you will have to register at the track and pay the day-of-event price."  What is the day-of-event price?

Thanks,
Char

Got my arse beat by a bunch of newbs in B group, but still managed to have a good time, stay under control, learn a little bit about what the bike will and won't do, chased Qwik and Dean all over the place and enjoy everybody's company.  Thanks everybody and especially Qwik for letting me hang out at his deluxe pad today.  Man am I beat!

Here are two pictures of Qwik from today.  One of us setting up for the day and another of the sh*t eating grin on his face.  We all enjoyed that last double A/B 40 minute session.

(http://www.admerchant.com/gallery/SSA/2010/RFR100821/P8210003.JPG) (http://www.admerchant.com/gallery/SSA/2010/RFR100821/) (http://www.admerchant.com/gallery/SSA/2010/RFR100821/P8210012.JPG)

Thanks too to A Dragon and Trinie for allowing me to move up to B group.  C group was a fun too, from the standpoint I could walk off.  B was more fun because I got to ride with the people I know.   Arthur6 was there and was riding with us, Wiles and Trinie made me feel like I was in the fast lane going slow, and at the end of the day, I was disappointed only that it was about over...thus me being the last off the track.

Now the work begins on the SSA/RFR Track Day compilation.

GM. Excellent job today. So happy you finally came out. It was a pleasure seeing you and that beautiful Kawasaki machine today. You rode at your pace and where you felt comfortable.  That's you number one priority. And you brought it home safely.    I knew you would still be one of the last ones riding.

No charge for the extra sessions. We never charge for group jumping. If we have the numbers to allow it your in for Free.  It's our Track Day and we can do what ever we want.  Looking out for our members and customers are what were all about.

GM Looks like your knowing how sweet riding the track is. Just sitting with friends and watching all the fast guys go by. The sound is so erotic.  The only bad part to that is. enjoy it while you can. Because before you know it. Your one of those fast guys.

Post by: GreenMachine on August 22, 2010, 07:43:23 AM
I'm somewhat surprised I didn't wad the old girl on my first experience.  It seemed that we all must have been pushing the limits somewhat, b/c everyone was feeling the same way at the end of the day...whether or not to push it in the last sessions and risk it.  I ran faster speeds earlier in the day before the wind picked up and more conservative but faster lap times later in the day even with the wind.  All in all, very pleased with the results.  I'm glad the day was mostly incident free and I truly learned what the bike can give and what it cannot.  That experience should make me a better safer rider and that's what I will take from my first Track Day.

As for being one of the fast guys, I looked at my lap times, the fact that I was lifting the front wheel out of corners as it was and leaving rubber (what I'm told) out of corners, the difference between me and the faster guys I rode with as technique & power.  There's was better.  So until I can get my technique perfected, I'll just have to be satisfied with being a slow B... or a really fast C.   :D

Thanks for a great track day!  My first time at RFR was a good one, with the exception of discovering a nail in my rear tire.  After learning this, I decided to call it quits after 4 sessions.  I was just getting familiar with the track, but I feel good about my progress for the day.

I really appreciate everybody's helpful, knowledgeable and supportive nature.  Both from the instructors as well as the riders.  I will definitely be coming back to RFR in the future without a nail in one of my tires to continue where I left off.

That sucked about your nail and day shortening experience.  The local guy I rode in with Saturday, Qwik, brought take-offs and offered them in case either of us cut a tire.  I lost track of how many sessions we rode, but I'm REALLY tired today.  Enjoy your stay in Reno tonight.

If you're ever in town during riding season, the SSA raffles off one 2-for-1 RFR Track Day certificate at Tuesday Bike Nights, hosted by La Vecchia Ristorante (http://www.google.com/search?q=la+vecchia+reno+nv&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a).  Stop by, win free stuff, and enjoy some really good food and company.  You can gamble afterwards.

I must have had a good time.  My tires have never looked so abused.  The back tires are easy to scour to their edges just riding on the street, but they've never been this torn up before.  Jumping off Hoot-n-holler may have something to do with it.  I've never had my fronts scrubbed completely to their sides neither.  Bye-bye Mr. directional arrow!

Yeah GM, now you're rollin'. It was a great weekend, Sunday was a "cool" 85 degrees and a lite breeze. "A" group was bit more crowded than Saturday with very fast guys; aka Jay, Justin, Eddie, and Steve. I was passed almost simultaneously by Eddie on the inside and Justin on the outside in turn one....it was grand, those guys are sooo god I just love been passed by them ;D. Hang out most of the day with Peter and Ryan and had a great time chasing them all day. I want to thank everyone that helped putting the weekend together, Andy for working the grid/tech/instruction; Trinie and Paul: tech/monitors; Jerome and Regina registration/breakfast; Dale, John, Rick: monitors; Eddie, Steve, Justin: instructing, Terry the flagmaster and all the corner workers; and everyone else I am forgetting. I had the best trackday ever and can't wait for the next one  ;)

Sorry about shorting everyones session. Glad my poor passing decision didn't hurt anyone but me. Broke my collar bone in four places so I see a orthopedic on Thursday. Thanks Treni for helping me with my leathers, sorry about the smell. Thanks Jason for the water. Steve, thanks for constantly being there and holding my hand. Kinse, you pact my car better than I do, thanks!. Hoon, what bet did you lose to have to be locked in the car with me? Great to learn about you and your family, beauty, like the truth, is not always pretty or easy but there is no better reward; and it sounds like you and your wife are strong enough to create real beauty. Eddie see what you created, I tried to keep my agressivness in check with my skill. This was the leason I learned this weekend. I now have my track motto,  "Don't let agressiveness exceed your skill"   Your all great guys, I'll see you when!

Yes I agree with Dale John. Don't beat yourself up man. Take what you can from it to learn from and become better. Just think itf you'd had to learn that lesson on the street! Could've been a lot worse. Crashing is the quickest way to learn your limits. Heal up quick man!

John. Sorry I didn't get the chance to see you after your crash. I was in the admin. office most of that afternoon. Danny and John were asking me to have take the ambulance ride. They were sure the collar bone was broken and didn't want you there much longer.

I remember our conversion earlier. I told them you were alright. Not in so much shock as they thought.  I told them about your past. It was funny. They both said  "OOOOHHHHHHH   I didn't know that about him. He's probably alright then. He knows what he's doing."  I was figuring you could still ski down to the lodge.

I spoke with the corner worker who so you go over the bars. He said it was so kool. You held it for so long then. Bam over you went and right on your head and shoulder at the same time. It looked like MotoGP. He said.

Johnny b. Make sure you come to bike night if you feel up to it. It's one of the best parts of the Track. Everyone it there. If you don't feel up to it we understand. But it sure would be nice to see you. ;D ;D

And Remember this is what you get when you play hard. Just like everything else you do.

hmmm...I guess Jerome is still pissed at me for covering up his pillow fight girls LOL

Poser...I guess it was your son who brought over the leathers for the military guys. Thanks so much for that! The kid who wore them I have known since he was 5 and it was his first track day. His mom even came out to experience her first track day as a spectator. She was pretty nervous. I rode with him and he did really good. Again, thanks for bringing out gear for these guys!!!

I just got back in San Francisco. After an unforgivable "Sushi Meeting" after the track day last night I stayed at my sister house in Tahoe.

Long drive to go, long drive to come back. Everything is worth for sure.

I had another great day at the Track. It was nice to see everybody again.

I’d like to say thanks to Chip for changing his track day from Saturday to Sunday just to ride with me. Thanks Dave for setting my suspension just perfectly to my weight and skills. Finally I met my Brazilian friend JP. Pleasure to meet you Dude. We had a lot of fun together on the track!

Thanks Paul, Andy, Mikey, Steve, Regina, Alberto and Scott for the ramp. Nice to see you Dale.

Jerome… Thanks Very Much for your patience and hard work for this club. I can not explain how much I was grateful yesterday, starting at the morning till we left from the sushi place. You’re a giant brave person!!!

I'm looking foward for the next time. I’m going to request off on my job just to be at RFR again next month.

Such a great time……

What group was she in?  Must have been a fast A rider because I never saw the speeds she was going with those wheels.

GM..."Got my arse beat by a bunch of newbs in B group, but still managed to have a good time"

Not all of us were newbs.  I spent the day in B working with my friend Derek on his raven R6.  SPL's Pirelli slicks and what little help I could offer had us both running A group times by end of day.  I'm proud of him!

Woo Hoo....

Fly from Wenatchee to Reno to see you guys (ok really to see Mrs. Ted) ride from the house to the track with the wife, and the XR....in the dirt through the desert!!

Half a lap around the track on the XR 600 and Knobby tires to help replace a dead radio on turn 15  ...Priceless!!!

Then on to the hills for a thirty mile ride with mrs. Ted on her quad and the XR...

What a weekend!!

THANKS TO ALL!

There is so much I would like to say here that i'll have to hold myself back, otherwise nobody would be willing to read by so long it would be.

Making it short...
Thanks to Alberto for helping me out on taking my bike to and back from the track and "allowing" me to go to the Sushi  :D I really appreciate that my friend. Thank you!

Thanks to Dale for looking after our bikes on Saturday night. Was nice to finally meet you and my bad about the "bumbling" football tackle at the end...  ;D

Thanks to all SSA guys that made this event another outstanding trackday! You guys rock! Everybody with the green "hard to see" t-shirt, Ya da best!

Nice finally meeting the faster brazilian from the group and I can say that I am the second fast one!  ;D ;D Was a pleasure meeting you also and thanks for the ride home!
Also meet Dub (Wiles). Great rider and funny guy!

Couldn't forget to mention Trinie that helped me out inside and outside the track! Thanks
As I said, so many names, but be sure that I appreciate all the effort that is put into it and am blessed to have you guys around!

And John, i hope you recover fast so we can make some more videos on the next track days. I'll edit it and post it on youtube and let you know! Take care buddy!

And last, as allways, can't wait for the next one... 8)

HAD ANOTHER GREAT TIME YOU GUYS PUT A LOT INTO THESE TRAKDAYS HAVING DAVE MOSS THERE WAS AWSOME THAT GUY ROCKS TO THE TIRE GUY WHO  HOOKED ME UP ON SWAPPING A TIRE AND SPL WHO WAS GOING TO GIVE ME A SCREAMING DEAL ON SOME CLIP ON'S IF ONLY MY FORKS WHERE 50mm. MY SON HAD A GREAT TIME HE  CANT WAIT TO GET OUT THERE HIM SELF. SO THANKS TO EVERY ONE. HAVE TO SHARE THIS PIC. HE WAS LOVIN IT.

:D Now that is a cool pic! That is definitely one for the family album! I had a great time with all of you. Sorry I couldn't get to everyone for a little on track guidance. I wanted to help each and every person on the track but there's just not enough time for one man.  :) Then with my Sunday getting cut short because the poor Kawi just couldn't handle any more abuse it really took away from my opportunity to help y'all. We'll get you next time. JP, you get most improved award for me on the weekend. Your rolling man. Paul, you will be under that 3 minutes in no time. Just focus on the riding my man. Don't worry so much about that clock. Thanks to all who helped out with sighting laps and instructing and all of the other things that go along with putting these together. Regina, your job is a tough one, thankless and you do it so well. Hey Dale! Since Jerome forgot you, I won't, thanks to you too!  :) You were there whenever we needed anything that we couldn't cover. And also for looking after our stuff we left overnight. Much appreciated. Great job SSA! Looking forward to the next one.  ;D

Oh, and also thanks to Dave Moss for coming out. It's really great to have a suspension guy of that caliber out there at your disposal. His services are priceless and he only charges $40 for all day. That is a steal!

While we're on the subject, can't forget to mention how nice it is having tire services out there from SPL and Pirelli. Those tires kick a$$. As far as I'm concerned, those Pirelli's are the best tires on the market. Thanks Brian & crew.

Also 2WCP. How nice is it to have all those little things to keep your trackday going or just make it better that you may not have or have forgotten to bring with you. Your a life saver for many I'm sure. Thanks to Steve and your crew too.  8)

:D :D Thanks my mentor, thanks. I tried putting everything you've told me last time together this weekend and was happy with the outcome. Still a loooot to go tho, but "all in its due time", right? And thanks again for going out there with me and giving me all this priceless feedbacks. That's the type of thing that neither Master Card could pay for...  :D :D
Thanks to Steve also that followed me for a couple of laps (or minutes - not quite sure when he showed up back there) and gave me some good advices as well. It's all in my mind guys. Stuff that I wont forget.

Steve you and your 2wcp are irreplaceable. Thanks for all your time and effort. You do some much for the SSA. Thanks for having parts for all our sorry forgetful A$$es. Your always doing all you can to help out everyone around you.   Big fat Thank You from the SSA.

Man, I wish I could have made it happen last weekend.  It was just a weekend where other priorities and family obligations had to take precedence.

I really do need to get out and ride with you all.  Hopefully a day is coming up in September.  I promise, I'll try to make that one.  Reading all these posts makes me realize the special times I'm missing with the club.

I do get to ride at Thunderhill, this weekend.  That will be good.  I'm still trying to get myself back in the groove.  My last day was really good and satisfying.

Title: Some Track Day feedback
Post by: GreenMachine on September 02, 2010, 01:06:11 AM
Dear SSA,
Kudos to what I took away from my first Track Day.  :thanks

I went for a ride to Downieville tonight and it was like an out of body experience, like someone else was riding my bike.  Many of my lines and braking points were different and it felt more natural and comfortable riding differently.  I was more relaxed and a lot more in harmony with the bike.

It's hard to describe accurately, except to say that I was riding my normal cruising speed and it felt REALLY slow! A noticeable improvement that I wasn't expecting.
Amazed! :egyptian

Doing track days makes a huge, but I really huge difference on the streets skills.

Especially give up driving on the streets to be at the track more and more...
