This is a ride that I've wanted to do for a while. It's the Southern 3-passes route (Monitor, Ebbets, Sonora), but then keeps going south to a Yosemite/Mariposa/Little Dragon loop.
For those unfamiliar, the Little Dragon is a pretty famous California motorcycle road. It's the section of Hwy 49 between Mariposa and Coulterville, named after the The Dragon at Deals Gap, NC. I've never ridden it and want to check it out.
This route takes 120 into Yosemite Valley, and 140 back out to Mariposa. So why Saturday 9/26? It's National Public Lands Day, which is a National Parks fee free day. So we won't have to pay $10 each to ride the 20 miles of the route inside the park. I don't' have a problem paying the fee to enjoy the splendor that is our National Parks, but since we're just gonna be riding in then right back out again, may as well take advantage of the fee free day.
Let me know if anyone else wants to join. Not for the faint of heart, it will be a full day; 400+ miles round trip from Minden, 500+ from Reno. We'll have to get an early start to finish in our 12hrs of daylight, so it may be pretty cold early on, especially on top of Monitor and Sonora passes. Here's the route: Google Map (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Maverik+Adventure's+First+Stop,+Nevada+88,+Minden,+NV/Markleeville,+CA/38.3485979,-119.4522758/37.8149903,-120.3130348/37.6734251,-119.784556/Coulterville,+CA/Douglas+Flat,+CA/Markleeville,+CA/Maverik+Adventure's+First+Stop,+Nevada+88,+Minden,+NV/@38.2234915,-120.2019615,9.13z/data=!4m56!4m55!1m10!1m1!1s0x8099bd8e6e2c5de9:0x7cf2002fc59557b7!2m2!1d-119.778606!2d38.958191!3m4!1m2!1d-119.7693039!2d38.7729097!3s0x8099c218af5bb405:0x2476864a7e9e1844!1m5!1m1!1s0x8099dd522483273f:0xe08a270c2e34d299!2m2!1d-119.7796826!2d38.6937227!1m0!1m5!3m4!1m2!1d-120.2897248!2d37.8202481!3s0x8090d65433eef63b:0x6a13e71cb717bb1c!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x80912cf46ec32c91:0x6d4b36e2a279c063!2m2!1d-120.1972129!2d37.7107484!1m5!1m1!1s0x8090bebcc40db3cb:0x1dd5557f87f3d8e2!2m2!1d-120.4549209!2d38.1143652!1m10!1m1!1s0x8099dd522483273f:0xe08a270c2e34d299!2m2!1d-119.7796826!2d38.6937227!3m4!1m2!1d-119.7927497!2d38.7919079!3s0x8099ea7346948493:0x3ea67d191e59a96!1m5!1m1!1s0x8099bd8e6e2c5de9:0x7cf2002fc59557b7!2m2!1d-119.778606!2d38.958191!3e0).
That's a big one! Wish I could join, I enjoyed the 3-passes ride last year and I've been wanting to go through Yosemite on the bike but unfortunately I can't afford to take up all of Sat. this weekend.
Good luck, looks to be a good one!
49 around Coulterville was my old stomping grounds.

By 'this weekend' do you mean 'next weekend'? Because it's next weekend.

Cool, I hear people mention the little dragon all the time, I gotta see it for myself.

My bad, didn't even check the date just assumed this weekend. Unfortunately I still can't make it, I'm in NY all next week/weekend.
That is an intriguing ride. I rode that section of 49 two years ago. Its a refreshing break from traffic on 49 and has lots of good corners, most unmarked by the way. We stayed in Oakhurst then came back through Yosemite. Unfortunately I have work commitments that weekend so cant join you.
This would be a good ride to do in May, when the water's flowing down the Merced river out of Yosemite and the hillsides are lush green. This route passes right over the river.
My plans have it that I'll be with Angie, otherwise, I'd be all over this one. Sounds hella fun!
Wait, what? I thought all your Angie are belong to her boyfriend. Nice GM, playing it sneaky-like? ;D
Kidding aside, this ride sounds super fun. If I didn't have kids that day I'd be in. I need to figure out how to plan the weekends they spend with their mom around the cool rides next year... lol
(for anyone wondering what in the world is wrong with my grammar in the first sentence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fvTxv46ano
It's from a horribly translated import game from the 80's)
Oh if I were only half the player Dragon was, that would have merit. :D
GM I'm not playing. That's just the way it is. If the ride is this coming weekend I'm in Dub. Kids are with their mom this weekend. Let me know when and where to meet ya. I'll even let you buy lunch for the Smurf and I.
Let's meet at the Maverik in Minden @ 8am.
Off ff ff that's really early. Damm I got to leave my house at 7. Ok. I can accept it. But I don't have to like it.
I know, early sucks.
Google maps says the route is 10 hrs round trip to Gville; add 2 more round trip to Reno. We'll make up a little time exceeding the speed limit, but lose more time with rest stops and lunch break. Sunset is at 6:51. We can leave later if you want, but the later we leave the more time you will spend riding home in the dark.

SS, of all your videos, that one makes me eebie-geebie the most. I've ridden that route many times, mostly on older bikes decades ago. The last time was about four years ago on the new bike. It didn't feel that much more comfortable and I wasn't being aggressive either.
It's a close second place to MRR in my book.

Don't worry, the slightest mistake on a road like that at 90+ and you won't remember anything. Ever. again. ;D
I just know I'll be cursing you on that morning. But praising you that afternoon. Looking forward to it.
See ya in the morning, 'Rome.
WE FOUND THAI FOOD!
Just need some Scrimshaw to go with it and you'd be all set
Don't worry, that ride was shitty, you guys didn't miss anything.
There were cops everywhere. Jerome and I both got tickets. I crashed and Jerome's bike broke down, then I got us totally lost and Jerome ran out of gas. Tons of traffic over every pass; pass one car and there's 10 more. It was so hazy the scenery wasn't very good and every road was covered with gravel, oil, dirt, and pine needles. It was scorching hot in the valleys and freezing cold on the summits. The Aspen trees on Sonora were just green instead of bright yellow. And the Thai food sucked.

Sounds like a great time, I think. You had the perfect weather for it.
Yeah man it was terrible. I hope we don't ever put this ride on the calender. I was so tired of cleaning the bugs from my bike and face shield. The best part was leaving Carson City. It was so windy. Their were no bugs to hit.
I'm so mad at Dub. I'll never ride with that ass clown again. :sharktank :sharktank
You guys are weird!
I've never taken a picture from that perspective. Always too many people pulling out or trying to park.
Any review on the prized section of road?
No, too busy riding. Epic though.

Oh, woops, I actually meant 100% the opposite of everything I wrote. I should have proofread that post better.
The ride was so good. It was really EPIC. We need to do this ride on the schedule every year and pay the $10.00. It's worth it. I was thinking on the way back. What a bunch of losers we are that national park is so close and we never go there. Once again how lucky we are too live here. We should pack a lunch and eat there every year. Just like we do the coast every year. Dubs route was perfect. So many twisty roads. Practically every where. I just couldn't get enough. Well on the way back coming down Ebbits I was in need of a rest. But we were running out of day light. So we had to keep going. But I was wore out. When I got home I was craving chili. :nana2 I know it makes no sense. But that's the way it was. I ate and feel asleep 9.00 o'clock till 6 am. Done THANKS DUB
