Title: Ride or swim ride? Sat or Sun?
Post by: GreenMachine on August 11, 2015, 01:36:20 PM
The ride calendar shows Sonora/Ebbetts passes.  It just so happens those road pass many little lakes.  The weather is suppose to be exceptionally warm/hot compared to some of the cooler rainy weather we've been experiencing, so maybe this would be a good opportunity for a swim ride?

lol lol lol

if i take off my big blue suit, the bright light coming off of me

would be brighter than the sun, and NO ONE would be able

to see the way home. :o  but the ride has awesome roads.

had to take buster in to the doc, and they are going over him,

so, if they release him, i am in, all depends on what they do.

Don't worry, I won't look.   :-\

I probably didn't describe my thought process well enough.  Was thinking of a swim ride, but not necessarily Sonora/Ebbetts.  Thinking that we'd leave it open to ideas and locations.

I'm planning to ride this weekend. It's been forever and my ribs are finally getting better. I'm not really interested in a swim, I just want to ride!

Sara has  family in town this weekend, but they are heading out early Sunday morning so we're both in for any rides on Sunday.  As for swimming, this year is a weird one.  Between the drought and the very warm, muggy weather a lot of the lakes have higher than normal populations of microbes in them (things like "swimmer's itch").  I'd be wary of swimming in anything smaller than Donner / Tahoe this summer.

So, if we're going to do a swim ride then I suggest some route that ends at Kings Beach / Sand Harbor / Donner's west beach or something like that.   ;D  Otherwise, any ride anywhere sounds like fun...  as long as Sara's key doesn't break again lol.

What if the water is moving? Like a swimming hole on a river?

What if there is a water bike doing laps around the swimming hole?

THAT'S IT!  I'M OUT!

:D

No, but seriously.  I may have to take a pass on doing a ride or swim ride on Sunday, but I can take a page out of Rich's playbook and say that I'm on call for that day: Angie.   :crazy

How about this for an idea.  No swim ride and we ride Pucks Lake on Saturday via Monitor?  ;)

Well FYI I'm in for both. Swim or not to swim. Can't ride on Saturday. I know a great spot on Ebbits. Alpine lake it's really nice.
Though i have to admit i was looking forward to Sonora Pass.
It's all good though. I'll go which ever way the wind blows on Sunday.  Brian's coming out so I'll get 3 beers in me and show everyone what a real wheelie looks like.  :GrnWheelie

Can't believe we're even talking about a ride with out GM

Is Angie the same thing as Angelica?  Wow, GM, Tom's prophecy is coming true.  He stood upon that camp table and spoketh truth from the lord that day, beware that the snake-facing women would kill the SSA.

;D

In all seriousness, we're in for whatever on Sunday.  If you guys want to do the Sonora Pass ride then we're in.  I just want to ride.  :)

Not so much.  I don't envision her snaking my face anytime soon, it's not that kind of relationship.  If anything, I think of myself as her American ambassador and she'd probably be the first to agree with that.  She's gone in six weeks and much of what she wants to do on her visit is summer/outdoor related. Time is running out on doing all of that.
Title: Re: Ride or swim ride? Sat or Sun?
Post by: RenoRider75 on August 13, 2015, 11:11:42 AM
Very cool - she's here at the perfect time of year then.  The balloon races, air races, rib cook-off, camel races, Tahoe food and wine festival, street vibrations, etc. all happen over the next 6 weeks.

If she likes the outdoors stuff like hiking, there are tons of hiking trails and things around here that are neat.  The Mt. Rose hike to the waterfall is easy and picturesque.  You already know all of the lakes and things around here.  Hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail gives you the opportunity to enjoy Tahoe's scenery from a distance.  It's going to be difficult to figure out which things to fit into the next 6 weeks...  :)

I'm on the fence, I may ride dirt. I'm indifferent about swim or no swim. I'll see what you guys end up planning on doing and decide from there.

Do it SL.  Whatever feels right.  Bring water.

I'll be doing the Three Passes ride out of Sierraville on Saturday, which will really be four passes.  Have a new touring rear tire that needs some wear put on it and I want do do it when it's hot out.  Looks like I'll get my wish.  Hoping to melt the tire actually.

Minimal stops.

Wedding cake!  That was funny.

can't believe GM is doing something for himself. That selfish Bastard! :doggy  Good for you pal. Enjoy your day with that little slice of heaven. Mister Ambassador.  Oh by the way.  I was at Tahoe yesterday with the kids and sister.  Met two young ladies from France. Kinda hippish.  But very sweet. That accent was more than 1 man could take wish you are there mister ambassador. I'll take pics next time.

I could ride on Saturday but I'm managing my time this weekend. Still plan on doing Sonora Pass on Sunday.
Bring your swimming trunks just in case.  What's the time we leave Reno? 8 am at Java Jungle. Head over VC get into Carson. Pick them up and had out? Been way to long. To much wedding cake.

No more Mr. Ambassador.  Got a nasty brief text from someone claiming to be her bo.   :D  Probably that tall dude she was with at JJ.  Must not have liked seeing her smiling face on the DVD I gave her.   I had taken the GoPros that day.  The last ten minutes are she and I chilling together on the lake last week and her joyful smile when I put our two boards together.   Soooo....  Looks like my Sunday just opened up!   8)

Talking to me?

Yeah, they're telling me I need a new radiator but while the new radiator is in the mail that I should ride street bikes. ;D Good thing I have both. Or, maybe they're telling me I need another dirt bike for back up. :evil1

Luckily I damaged the side that already had a slightly smashed radiator, so it probably would have been good to have it replaced anyway.

It's been a while since I did monitor. :evil1

So much traffic tonight, you'd think we were in San Mateo and Monitor was Skyline.  Bad timing coming up on the very first corner too.  Had to go back and do it again in between cars.  Did my best NVgixxer impression on Saddleback.  I'm unworthy!  :|)

Not even one other MC, all of them had stopped in Markleeville.  New pavement here and there too.  That was nice.

I'll miss riding with NVgixxer though.  Wasn't as fun without him there to remind me how fun it was. Hope I'm the same way when I get to be 24, his age.   :D

@Flamecrow, I'm assuming you're okay? Posting on the forum is a good sign, indicates you have ten working fingers? Hope it's nothing serious from your off including the bike.  I've known a couple of riders who have fallen asleep while riding, so it is an occurrence.  Fatigue  can really get to you.  Appreciate you posting, it's a wake up call for all of us.  You're one lucky rider! Definitely could have been worse.

What time was it when you veered off the road?

Very glad to hear you're okay though.  It could have taken so many other avenues, with far different results.  That Kawasaki green must be your  :lucky

I didn't sleep after working Friday. I left 4 am and crashed at 7:45 am. I was in full gear of course, no scrapes or bruises just soreness around shoulder/elbow from landing. Man, once I was on the dirt there was no stopping whatsoever. I think I would've done okay if there weren't huge rocks, one which sent me flying. I did feel my helmet hit the ground really hard but I don't think I have a concussion or anything, just minor headache that's all. My GoPro was not recording :*(

No worries, I'm not sure I'll be getting back on before the season ends. We'll see. I was in the process of upgrading to a Ninja 636 so this will be a setback :-/

I should have gone. I've ridden up and down the Sonora Pass before and I consider it the most technical road I have ridden. With their 20% grade, narrow road and real sharp turns with no curve/corner indicators so you really don't kmow what to expect. Plus the dips!

It was sweltering out there and I was getting cranky, not with other riders though, just with the temps and bad input on my GPS, which took us off course to a dead end.  My fault.

We did fairly well though.  We were running a couple hours behind schedule which caused one of the riders to ask us to stop for food immediately.  That worked out really well, even though our lunch spot was packed and had an hour wait for hot food (burgers & such).  The good that came from that was, that it was a sweltering 103* in Sonora and we stopped up by Mi-wok where it was far cooler than that.

And we happened upon NVgixxer in CC.  It was great having him on another ride.  I got to get some last jabs in on ol' Jimbo and he jabbed right back.  Gotta love it!  :boxU

Traffic was extraordinary today.  Must have been the last big bash weekend for folks or something.  Hwy 108 was awful.  The good part was that there was very little enforcement and everyone rode maturely.  No unnecessary risks.

I wonder what Jimbo's top speed recall showed?

It was a really fun day, except for that stretch in the 109-degree heat.  I thought I was going to pass out, lol.  And can you believe how low Snake Gulch was?!  It literally looked like it was more than 100 feet below its normal rim!  This is what it's supposed to look like:

Otherwise, this was a great trip over some roads neither Sara nor I have ever ridden on a motorcycle.  Thanks for the fun times with a great group of people!  And you're all welcome for dinner.  :)  It's our way of saying thank you for having to wait for us to catch up all day.   :P

was not up to waiting. but after all was said and done, we SHOULD have kept going. it was my
stupid hamburger that caused the LONG LONG delay.

the ride and the people were awesome. been waiting to do 108 with you guys, what a blast. but
man, traffic like no one's business. hot hot hot, bikes thermometer said 109 :o

dinner was very good (clam chowder) and what a bunch of WAR STORIES from us all.  LOL LOL LOL
every one of us had something to say. but eric and sara's story about her broken key, and the ants, i think won
the prize. ;D

just a really good day, and thanks again for din-din. :)
