Thanks for the second post... dont know why it does not go into whip lash injuries at all but a back protector ought to take at least 15degree( or equal to the angle between back of skull and curve in shoulder region) worth of impact damage away, lesser chance to rupture spinal cord. From what I've seen it pretty much creates a straight line between helmet and back protector, keeping that neck out of harms way as much as possible.

having said that, what are your thoughts on gel inserts? My mom could not sell my old racing suit, so she sent it to me, it still fits, only the gels are gone. Back in my day (yawn, yawn..), raced in 92-95, I had gels in my knee pockets, crashed a couple  of times and never even had a bruise. Are they a thing of the past now? I sure thought they where the bomb back then.

Well, I'll be honest. I've never heard of them. Maybe TWF can chime in. I'm sure he knows about them. Sorry I can't help with that one.

I think all that shock absorbing CE has replaced the need for gel inserts. I have never heard of them...except of course the doc shoals   :D
