Title: doug polen instruction
Post by: dmh2000 on August 17, 2009, 09:20:23 AM
I signed up for the 1on1 Doug Polen class at yesterday's trackday. because there were only two students I more or less had a private lesson. It was great, i learned to be much more smooth, and changed my lines which were way off. He uses a radio while you are riding which  really works. Less classroom, more riding. He's an excellent instructor, and hey, one on one with a WSBK world champ. what can you say? I cut 15 seconds off my laptimes (3:35's to 3:20's). He said he wants to come back to RFR. highly recommended.

Glad to hear you took advantage of that. Thanks for the report and congrats on your improvements. You will continue to improve from those lessons as time goes on too! Hopefully you took notes!  :)

Thanks for posting and participating in Doug's School. WOW!!!!  I'm so impressed he made it to our track day. I think I'll have to make on of his schools. I think it's a real bargain.

Sometimes I think I should have taken up golf. I used to think golfing was expensive. Nothing close to the rush I get when riding my bike.

I did not ride the track day. The thought of crashing the Ducati the weekend before I finally get a track bike was horrifying.

I am really interested in the Doug Polen school. I talked with them at Laguna a couple years ago at their booth and asked them to give RFR a shot, now I feel bad cause i did not participate.

It seems like it would be hard to focus with a radio in your ear, did you find it distracting at all?

I saw him sitting there at lunch (I drove up hust to say "hello all") and there was Doug Polen, just hanging out!! I think that is sooo cool!! The California folkses just sort of think you see these guys all the time. I spent so much time in Washington, we never see any of those guys up there.

Zemke talked to me at WSB Miller this year, yea he talked, I freaked.....anyway he metioned RFR, I think he would like to ride here, just for fun of course.

So the question is..how do we convince these guys to come out and play?? If Jerome has contacted Doug Polen, can we contact a couple others? Zemke metioned Meguel (Duhammel) i cant spell his name,  anyways it does not hurt to try. Zemke lives just over the hill in San Fransico area, Duhammel lives in Vegas I think.

It was actually pretty effective since its one way only, from Doug to the student. I think it helped. it wasn't a distraction.

According to the schedule on his website, gopolen.com, Doug is scheduled to return for the SSA Sept 26 trackday. woohoo!

I also think we should have a little more ceremony about his appearance at the riders meeting. He's a WSBK/AMA/Endurance world champion after all.

Tom. That's a pretty good opportunity for you to learn something from a World champion. If you can afford it. I don't think you would regret it at all.

Ouch..

I dunno if I can spare 500 plus.

Is there any wiggle room on the track fee?
Title: Re: doug polen instruction

$410 + $110 track fee $510 total

I think that is really 520, but who is counting.

the track fee is $135 for those days just FYI.

Not sure if Jerome has a different price set for the Polen guys.

Looking forward to thrashing the Ducati one more time on the track...woo-hooo!!

Just a heads up for any of you taking or thinking of taking the Doug Polen school, we will give you a discount on your trackday. If you sign up with Doug, your trackday will only be $75.00. If you've already paid we will give you a refund. If you haven't paid, just email Jerome and let him know you have signed up with Doug and we will get you on the list and you can pay us at the track.    8)

If your getting Doug Polen's instruction (more info @ Gopolen.com) you get a break on the track fees.
The price would drop to $75 from $135.
I think this is the clubs way of trying to make professional instruction affordable for it's members.
This seems like a great example of the club working to help out it's members.
thank you to the executive board!

ps.  my first SSA track days were $120.
I've payed 99/day (with a Saturday AND Sunday purchase)
I've also payed 160 dollars.

If you were dead set on the trackdays anyway what does it matter? If you were going to get instruction anyway then it's a plus. Add the fact that this spontaneous discount is 75 bucks off then it becomes a tremendous deal. The SSA just gave you Doug Polen's instruction at 19% off. Granted, folks who already have the SSA tshirt do get slighted on the bundle deal but then again you get catered lunch...which is included in the bundle. I don't have a shirt but I pack my own lunch at all the trackdays... :-\

The math per your request

Trackday = $270 for both days
DP instruction = $410 for a day
SSA discount (when taking DP class) = -$75

$270
+
$410
-
$75
---------
= $605 <-- considering that I'm unemployed, I will unfortunately have to miss out on this opportunity  :'(

I did it. Laborday at Miler. I will do it again next year.

Last year at the AHRMA race, I was a lapper. This year, thanks to Doug, Brian, and Alberto, I got 4th place Saturday. 3rd place and in eye shot of the leaders Sunday.

Best $$ I ever spent on racing. I could have done 20 trackdays and not have got this fast.
If you think you cant find the cash, but want to be faster, and can spend cash on trackday, I say your a fool.

This is not really the topic to bring this up in, yet I am again.  Trackdays have been getting smaller and smaller for a little while now at Fernley.  The track is a bit bumpy but the price is right.  SSA got the day from a track provider who got a T.H day instead(which is sold out or soon will be for all the right reasons).  It will be hard for us to compete with.  I forsee mostly a local turn out.
The good news is that the SSA guys are charging less for the same weekend.  I have stopped going to all other track providers at Fernley becauce of a few bucks.  Right now, Paying more is now what I had in mind either.  I can refrain from saying more but on the bright side Polen might make if enough sign up.
     Nice pictures above.
