It's in fine print for their Saturday event on their Web site, so I would assume that's true.  I would think it would be an added bonus selling point, but they don't say anything in their write-up.

yes and no. we need this thread to get a approx number to tell Z2 then we will know the amount to collect once we give them the number and receive the price well be in like flynn.

I might be there both days with 1 or more buddies. Can't commit yet but is 90%.

I polled the riders from our ride today, but I think extra $$$ are tight for them.  On the other hand, there was a rider we talked to, up from Nevada City and he sounded interested.  He was going over this coming weekend with Keigwins and I encouraged him to join our group and get a discount.

Sorry - I won't be able to make that one either!  Family reunion.  I'm hoping for the PTT days is early July.

My wife has been undergoing treatment for breast cancer, since early December.  She is doing well, but it is an arduous journey.  It has a way of rearranging one's priorities!

We did win our first Nor-Cal outrigger canoe race of the season, in Monterey, though.  Our little south shore crew put all the winter training to good use and brought it home.  It's the first time the San Francisco crew and a couple of others haven't been able to paddle away from us.

The only thing would prevent me from going to this is if I dont get my R6 fixed on time (which I dont think will be a problem, but cant say foshow). The question here would be which day(s) to go for... I saw GM mentioning that he was going to change the topic head and include the days people were going. That would help me decide cause I might be going for only one day (that will heavily depend on how much those days are going for) and will definitely want to go on the day that has more SSA riders.

Also, until when SSA has to give Z2 the final members list? By the end of this month max I'll have a better idea about my bike and will know for sure if am able to go or not...

What about Jerome? And Andy? Are they aware of this?

Jerome knows about it.  I'm not sure what his plans are.  I don't know if Andy has a running motorcycle or not.

Put me down for both days.  I'm never quite sure if I'll be able to make a trackday until the day before but I'll go in with you guys to help get a lower price.

Absolutely!  Zoom Zoom will have great instructors available to help make it fun and safe for your first time on track and you will be amongst friends all day in the paddock.

So, what groups is everyone riding in?

I haven't ridden with Z2 before. How relaxed are they about switching groups and maybe riding in a group that isn't your own with friends towards the end of the day as the herd thins out?

I'm gonna pay when I get a check in as well.. looks like we get $20 off per day.

Couple questions..

1) Being my first track day I'm not sure what I might need. I read the bike prep thread and am good on that but any suggestions on other stuff? what ammenities are there? food? shade? a place to chill between sessions?

2) My girlfriend wants to come check it out. Is she gonna be allowed in the area if she's not riding? Maybe if i get her an umbrella and tight outfit people will think Im a pro :o

3) Any suggestions of where to stay Saturday night?

4) My tires (power pures) are about 70%. If I roast em on saturday is there services to get em changed out at the track?

5) How long are the sessions and how long between?

Let me try to answer all your questions...
ThunderHill is beautiful, and Z2 does a great job with everything else. There will be a cafe there, a gift shop, restrooms, tire vendor, photographers, etc....
Your girlfriend can definitely come and hang out right there with us in the pits. saturday you can camp on the track or stay at the Best Western right down the street. Sessions are 20 min. per group, 3 groups. so you will be up every 40 min. I think that covers all you r questions my friend, see you there!

A)  Have you seen this page (http://zoomzoomtrackdays.com/ti/zoomzoom/info2.html?id=HcjRq6UV&mv_pc=579)?  It will give you lots of the info you seek.  The bike prep thread is for SSA track days; this is a Z2 track day and you must abide by their requirements (http://zoomzoomtrackdays.com/ti/zoomzoom/showcontent.html?content=bikeprep&id=35ss4AaF).
There is food in the form of a cafe (burgers and stuff) but you should bring some high energy snacks for through the day.  As far as I know it's only open for lunch, so if you're gonna camp, bring breakfast and dinner too.  The paddock has big fixed canopies that we can pit under.  Even if you aren't under them someone will be happy to share their shade.  Your place to chill between sessions will be your (our?) pit.  I assume most, if not all, of the SSA group will pit together or at least near each other.
As far as what else you should bring?  Lots and lots of WATER.  Since this is your first track day, just keep it simple.  Make sure to bring all your gear, prepped bike (motorcycle key!), food, water, camping gear (if you choose).  Luckily, you will be amongst a group of friends and we can help you out with whatever else you may need (tools to remove your wheels, misc pit amenities for example).

A)  Yes, anyone is allowed in the paddock to hang out..  Is she hawt?  If so tight outfit is required.

A)  I suggest you camp because it's free, its fun and when you wake up you are already where you need to be.  There are bathrooms and showers.

A)  Yes, there will be a vendor who will sell you new tires and mount them, or mount the ones you brought with you, anytime throughout the day.

Z2 is pretty strict when it comes to following rules.  They don't have a problem with switching you to a different group if you want, but they generally don't allow people to run in multiple groups.  They sell a two group option for the day and feel it is unfair to the people that paid for two groups if they let others "poach".  They also have a strict no crashing policy.  If you crash 99.99% of the time you will not be allowed back on track for the rest of the day. 

That being said they off some of the best and by far the most instruction of any trackday.  Their instructors are very talented at teaching and they will work with you all day if you want.  That goes for any group.

I'll be there Friday night.  I won't be able to get in until Saturday morning but if you guys would like we can set up a SSA area and all pit together.  Lisa and I should be able to get in a little early because she is staff so I can reserve whichever area you guys would like.

I vote for the first canopy near the restrooms and the shower.   ;D

It's going to be hot: water in water out. The shorter the walk the better. (IMO)

I'm thinking about going down friday night as well. Is camping available friday night?

Camping is not available at the track Friday night. Z2 won't pay for the track on Friday night so if you camp it has to be outside the gates.

The first canopy will be hard to get a group in due to the fact it's half of it is usually taken by the staff. I'll see what I can do. I'll have my toy hauler so I'll try and park it on the far side(closer to turn 15) of the first canopy.

I spoke with Z2 about reserving part of the canopy and they said that as of right now they had 0 sign ups with the code Lisa.  To quote them "no sign ups equals no canopy reservation".

Any one heading there Friday evening and would like to convoy or meet some where let me know as I plan on sleeping in my vehicle at the gate or something like that. Don't think a could manage driving there then ridding the same day.

Does any one know what the hotel availability or general costs of rooms are there?  Maybe we can split the cost (2 - 4 ways).  Just a suggestion.

Does Z2 enforce the no antifreeze policy? Seems weird that the ssa policy does not require it and Z2 does.. and for the same tracks???

Z2 is pretty particular about the no antifreeze.  They are the last of the local providers to keep this rule.  Several years ago all providers required it but one by one they have been taking it off their requirements.  You need to run water in you bike to ride a Z2 day.

Do they really check it? I mean, do they open every single bike radiator cap to check out what you are running? Or is it through the coolant reservoir? How do they check it? Just curious...

I assume they would just look at the coolant reservoir to see if it's green or clear.

Alright Columbo, you can stop the act.  There's only one reason you remotely qualify for C, the fact that this is your first track day.  You should be immediately moved up to B where you can show everyone in that field proper riding technique.  You've got that down pat!

Where you go from there is dependent on how much speed you're willing to tackle.

They usually don't check, they just ask.  They run on the honor system.  Keep in mind that if you lie and end up dumping coolant on the track you will not only anger every one at the track (coolant takes 3-4 times longer to clean up than oil), but Z2 won't be real excited about you being a customer with them again.

The coolant rule used to be required by all providers because all tracks used to require it (along with safety wiring your drain plug and oil filter).  Over the last few years the tracks have dropped this rule due to the fact that motorcycles rarely leak coolant or rupture a radiator in a crash.  When the tracks started dropping the rule so did the providers.  Z2 has kept this rule because in the rare event that someone does dump coolant on the track it ends up being a complete disaster and ruins everyone's day.

Ok, I'm full of trouble.. No trailer now. I'm loading in the back of my truck. Unloading on flat ground is not an option. Is there a slope or something nearby at the track that can be used to unload? Also in the past I've unloaded out of my truck onto a trailer first, and then onto the ground if anyone is available.

Don't worry, there will be plenty of people around who will be more than happy to help you unload/load.

This make sense too. Although being a fine line between how often an accident with coolant being spread over the track happens versus the costumer cursing about having to dump whatever they are running to meet Z2 rule. Personally, after hearing how bad it is to clean coolant from the track, I kinda agree with Z2 rule, but... that's just me.

Thill has a raised area that some people use to load and unload bikes but unless your truck has a huge lift and massive tires there is no reason the bike can't be unloaded on flat ground. If you want I'll being a ramp to help you.

Naaa, only 98 predicted for Willows on Saturday and 96 for Sunday with 27 percent humidity.  Either way, prepare to get your riding in early.

I'm thinking of blitzing down and back Saturday to watch and hang out with you guys.  I've never been to T-hill, but I hear it's an awesome place to ride.

Anyone back from Saturday's trackday?

Me and Kim are back! What a great Saturday it was  :) The weather was a beautiful 93 with a cooling breeze. SSA was in effect out there with about 12 of us registered. Very minimal accidents out on track, and NONE involving SSA.  :thumbup Thunderhill was just as fast and fun as always, and Z2 did a great job putting this all on, SSA thanks you! there should be some pictures up soon...

Sunday was an awesome day, too.

What happened to TahoeBrian?  I was looking forward to meeting him and taking a few laps.

Awesome time with my peeps. Great riding was had by all. Thanks to Dub and Dragon for the great "battles" out there, and Bruce as well. :D BTW Cameron Beaubier (AMA Daytona Sportbike) and Joey Pescarella (AMA Supersport) were there. I witnessed first hand, a multiple riders pass while in "A" by "Cam" entering turn 13.... late braking and sideways!! Absolutely awe inspiring!!

Ok, first track day weekend was completely awesome. Started in novice and was soon bored, moved up to B and was soon scared! By mid day Saturday I relaxed and everything came together. Was feeling really good Sunday, ran a 2:04.. Not sure what a good lap time is there. Had a good chat with oneup. Then I had a pretty good scare, another rider and I bounced off eachother near turn 8 at near triples. I held my line, snuck a look over my shoulder and saw him ride off track. I'm not sure who was at fault.. Happened to be at the same time someone crashed at turn 5. I pulled in and inquired if I was at fault but I dnot think anyone saw it. Never did find out who it was.

I believe that's 'A' group speed.  I believe Dean (skydiverDCM) said that's his lap time, he's in 'A' group and just earned his racing license.  Not bad for your first trackday wouldn't you agree?

Did you have anyone come up to you for your autograph?

Turn 8 is a (near) triple digit corner...even in B.

Did this guy try and pass you on the outside? If so, he was probably trying to get around you and you drifted out on him. Not a problem though. You run your lines and he has to watch you. B group is not AFM so rubbin' is not racin' :D

Now....if you did a Simoncelli and came up inside him and ran HIM off the track...it would be your bad :)

I was on the left side of the straight coming outa 7, passed 2 riders on the left. I was thinking the pass was complete and stayed to far inside on 8. Im pretty sure I was completely thru 8 and still on the tight inside then all of a sudden the rider appeared and that was that. doesnt make sense unless he punched it after I passed him. Still would like to find out who it was and get their story. If I f'd up and pulled a MS I'd like to know.

The line I was taught, starting in 6, is apex 6, let your speed drift you out to the rumble strip on the right side, then apex 7, again your speed carries you out to the right. My turn in marker for 8 is the last white mark on the right and I aim for about 1 foot from the dirt on the right, then turn in, apex 8 and again let your speed carry you out to the far right side of the track, full throttle up the hill on the far right before turning into 9. Sounds like he was on that line as you moved to the right. In any event, especially in the B group where everyone does not know the race line, it's on whoever's passing to stay clear. So if he was trying to pass, it was his bad.

A 2:04 is great, that would put you in the top 10 in the AFM 650 Twins class. I'd just wave as you went by  :howdy

2:04 is a phenomenal lap time for your very first time out on a track.  Very impressive.  You must be a prodigy; you should get your license and go racing!

I was 2 spots down from oneup. Sorry if I was reclusive... was a bit overwhelmed with the whole experience and just tried to take it all in. Well maybe I'll move up to A group soon. It still makes me nervous being close to other riders though and I don't want to get spooked and make a mistake.

No worries, I understand.  That was me my first trackday too.  I remember I would just sit there between sessions and stare into space, taking it all in, as you said.  People kept asking me if I was ok, lol.

I am only just now, a year later, beginning to feel comfortable in close proximity to other riders.  It's something that you just have to get acquainted to on the track, because there is no equal to it on the street.  Assuming you are riding the correct line and are able to hold it, you could go out with a rider you trust and do some lead-follow/pass drills.  They will just pass you close then open the door and let you pass them back, and so on.  I rode in A the last part of Sunday (which was a blast, by the way!) not because I'm fast, but because of the passing rules.  Someone sought me out in the pits to let me know that a pass I made on them was too close for B group and made them uncomfortable.  Once I was riding in A I realized that I liked to be passed close by the much faster riders in that group because I trust them to do it clean.

That sounds like an excellent way to learn quickly! Passing technique is a complete mystery to me at this point. I wasn't worried about it for my first time and most of my passes were just liter bike power on the straights. I did get a couple of outside passes on turns 3 and 6; after being passed there a couple times I caught on. Definately and hopelessly hooked now!

The two most impressive riders I've ridden with are in this thread.  Not to take anything away from the many with mad skills or that are fast too, but you and Dub have the best form I've seen on two wheels.  You're both prodigy's in my book and you both will only get faster.    :bowdown .

Looking at far right, second one down. The instructor following me (Marty) tells me my head should be in line with my body instead of plumb. I tried and it was making me dizzy! I'll have to work on it.

Thanks to all who came out this weekend.  I had a great time.  NO BAD SECTIONS OF TRACK TO LOOK OUT FOR.  GREAT BATHROOM FACILITIES.  This is a wonderful place to be.  I wish I could go there every weekend. 

After not riding all year I posted my best times ever.

Willis You are extremely quick thanks for dragging your elbow in front of me.  Excellent job on drinking your 2 1/2 gallons of water.  I drank so much on Saturday I don't think I needed that much on Sunday..  Never cramped up once coming home. 

Paul.  Your going to have to help me hook up the GoPro for next time.  I would have had some great pics for everyone to see.

Wow!! What a day!

Everything started at 2:15am (after going to bed around 12:15) when I woke-up to get whatever was missing ready for the trip. Finally left Reno around 3:30. The trip was pretty much relaxed besides the fact a car in front of us almost hit a deer twice at some full of trees coasted road. After that, was pretty much trying to stay on the right path all the way to thill.

Speaking of which.. what a place! Very nice infrastructure and organization. I was blown by the time I got close to where Rick was pitted at and had seen almost nothing of the place yet. Then registration, tech (had the inspector complaining about my exhaust pipe not being completely "fastened", said he would stop by and fix but never did - and the pipe never fell off, as he predicted) and riders meeting – only after the guy on top of the table said "if you are not an A or B rider, you are in the wrong place" I went to the "right place". Then getting ready for the sighting laps.

Again, as I did before my first day at RFR, I watched a nice lap video on youtube of thill several times so I could get familiar with the track configuration and stuff, so the sighting laps were no surprise per say, besides starting to figure out reference points and riding lines live. Got out with little advice from the instructor and went to the pits. The second session of the day was, in a sense, the most thrilling one I believe. Stopped under the shade and asked for an instructor, but apparently no one "could" or was available to tow me. Finally, a guy named Marty came along and asked what I wanted. You know, just the basics, you tow me, show me some lines "at speed" and you follow me to see what I am doing wrong – I said. Right on! Headed out there and started following him. Nothing new until the lap where I passed him so he could watch me. All turns where just fine until turn 9... Went up hill a little too wide and when coming down, the right flank started slowly (seemed slow to me due to the fact my senses were sharpening at an exponential rate) disappearing from my sight and I started to think "holy sh7t!! I'm completely off...that's it, I'll crash". In my mind I wasn't going to be able to make the turn since I was way too far to the right. Miraculously, I was able to ride over the very last inch of asphalt before the track becomes dirt and rode through with a big sigh of relief and a head shake. Regrouped and finished the section with no major problems. Came out and had a little talk with the instructor, nothing to major and went to finish recovering from the "incident" in the pits. Decided to treat the track with a little bit more respect thereafter.  8)

The rest of the day was a blast. Had way too much fun trying to nail down turns 5 , 9, 11 and 14 and at the session before the last one got my knee down on 14. Was feeling way more comfortable on my bike and could turn some good laps. Gearing, trail braking, apexes and cornering speed were pretty much mediocre at that time – mostly due to my tiredness – and was still able to turn 2:26, which don't know how bad it is, but accounting that good lap times are around low 2:10's and how much I knew I could improve on my riding, I was pretty happy about it.

Left the facility completely exhausted and excited about what to come next. Had a great time with some very good friends as well! Very nice to see you guys after a long time. Wish I could've seen you, Paul, but I am sure more opportunities will be there. And sorry if I didn't expend that much time along with you guys, but Rick's spot and, as TahoeBrian mentioned, digesting all the information thrown at me (rider's meeting pretty much in between every section, for example) were the two main reasons for that. Not to mention the fact I was trying to make Lais first trackday experience the least boring I could (and I think I did  ;D)... Anyway, thanks again to SSA for everything and am really looking forward for the next one.

I think he probably meant that your head and shoulders should be leaned into the corner more; I think you keep your head and eyes even with the ground/horizon. In the pic of the MotoGP rider you can see his head and shoulders are leaned to the inside of the centerline of the bike, but his head is turned (as much as possible) so his eyes are level with the horizon.

I thinks you are correct, I watched a superbike race and they seem to keep there head straightish. I must have misunderstood, it does look like my entire upper body could be a bit more inside though.. Maybe thats what Marty meant.

Looking at your pictures Brian I think he means you are 'crossed up'. Go out and "kiss" those mirrors and let your head and shoulders lead you through the turn (advice I generally get from Z2 instructors)

JP.  Excellent Job on your experience.  I didn't know this was your first trip to Thunderhill.  You seemed so at home.  Turn 5 does take some getting use to.  Track is so much better than RFR!!!!  Worth the drive and money.

It's so hard to get everyone together in one spot.  But you and Rick had prime real estate for sure.

Greg, you are good Man. Saturday night after the nice dinner at the mexican restaurant in tow (you missed) I loved walked on the track with you. We learn a lot and there are lots of spots we don't see when we are 100mi/hr.

When the track goes cold at the end of the day you can walk or ride a bicycle on it (no motorized vehicles) until it goes  hot the next day.  We walked around the track until it got dark talking about lines and giving a different perspective of the track.  You'd be amazed what the track looks like when you aren't riding on it.
