He means Fresh Pond.  It's a Chevron station all by it's self along 50 about 5 piles PAST the intersection of Ice House and Hwy 50.

Perhaps in the future that isn't the best stop for gas on this route since it requires riding past the turn off 50 to Ice House then back-tracking.

It's only 100 miles from the Chevron in Meyers to Auburn; everyone should be able to make that.  And if not there are a couple small stations along 50 between Meyers and Ice House where some one could top off if they are worried about it.

Hot weather, separated group, terrible traffic, broken down bikes, speeding tickets ... oh well, there will be plenty more rides to try again.  At least no one got hurt.

The gas stop USED to be the 76 station in Strawberry.

Sounds like it is a good thing I stayed at home and drank my geritol

Not sure if having my ignition burn out on me about as far away from home as possible was worse than the speeding citations, but it turned an otherwise fun group ride into just surviving the elements.  For that matter, Bigcat's 600+ mile day had to have been worse than mine too.  What a absolute trooper though!

Hadn't that happened, I think the group would have reconnected on WWS and we'd be telling a different story about a slightly disjointed group ride that turned into an awesome day.

For my part, I need to take it upon myself to make an announcement before every group departure, spelling out as clearly as possible where we're headed, so everyone can find there way to the next waypoint destination no matter what happens.  When Jerome would lead he would do this and I always thought it unnecessary.  I made an brief announcement when we left Reno, but neglected to repeat it for the CC crew, forgetting there could be riders who may be anticipating a different route to our destination.

It's about taking in the most corners to your destination, not about the shortest, quickest route.
